Outside at Lake Powell
I find myself intrigued when visiting a place like Lake Powell. On my first trip there I constantly asked myself “whats around the next bend?” From the main channel to the narrow side canyons that splinter off like a cracked windshield, there is no doubt of the beauty you’ll find there. On each trip since I still wonder whats around each bend and down each finger. Especially with a water level that changes with the droughts and hotter conditions. Here is a small glimpse into my last trip there.
Summer Thunderstorms on Lake Powell can erupt at anytime.
This time of year the desert monsoon are very active.
And when the rains start they poor.
Be careful dry falls can quickly start flowing.
Waterfalls in the desert are rare and can flow after the rains stop for a time.
Mother nature always sends beauty when you step outside and look.
Even spots that don’t look like waterfalls can be. But once the rain stops it’s time to explore.
The narrow fingers of Lake Powell are great to explore. Just be sure your boat fits.
Squeezing through Lake Powell’s narrow fingers is an all hands situtation but I had to “squeeze” off a few frames.
Lake Powell covers Glen Canyon and the slot canyons that run into it.
The twisting narrow fingers of the Lake Powell catch the light differently around every corner.
Once the exploring is done for the day and the rains have stopped. Thunderheads give one more surprise.
The remaining clouds from the afternoon thunderstorms light up the sky at Lake Powell
The last bit of light send us off to our sleeping bags happy with our day.
Until next time get outside and see for yourselves just how boring inside is…
